Edward Feild Primary and Foundation Schools have a total of about 300 children. We have Robin Playgroup in the school and Magpies breakfast club and after school club on site. Together we provide education for children from the age of 2 1/2 to 11,with "wrap around care" available from 7.30 am to 6.15 pm from the age of 3. We offer a free minibus service to the youngest children at the furthest distance within our catchment, subject to availability.
Inspection Report
Our latest Primary OfSTED inspection (December 2008) found "Edward Feild is an outstanding school because pupils make outstanding progress". "The leadership of the headteacher is outstanding and has strongly contributed to pupils attaining above-average results", "pupils make outstanding progress... in all areas, because the quality of teaching and learning is outstanding, pupils work diligently in lessons, behave outstandingly and have great pride in their school". "The curriculum is outstanding. Topics are carefully chosen in order to maximise pupils' enthusiasm and enjoyment". In the Foundation Stage "staff provide an inspiring, welcoming and well-planned environment, which stimulates children to learn. Children's enjoyment, enthusiasm and engagement are outstanding due to the good care and strong relationships that exist between staff and children."
The Nursery Inspection in 2007 found "This is a good Nursery with outstanding features …. as a result of good teaching and an outstanding curriculum, children achieve well overall and make outstanding progress in some areas. The outstanding care, guidance and support that the school provides underpin children's academic achievement and contribute a great deal to their personal development". Both reports are available via Links at the bottom of this page.
Enjoyment
Children joining the school make friends and become part of our community very quickly. We have playground buddies and playground games and adventure areas to ensure playtimes are enjoyable, and we have trained peer mediators to help settle any disagreements between children.
Attainment
We have high expectations of behaviour, personal development and academic achievement. Attainment in KS2 (11 year olds) National Tests is regularly well above that expected Nationally. The2009 test results show 91% of children attained level 4 in English, 97% in mathematics and 100% in science. The percentage of children reaching level 5 - a level above that expected - is exceptionally high. We have many visitors coming to the school to observe how we achieve such good results. The Link at the bottom of the page will take you to the Edward Feild School Profile, but unfortunately the government provided data is some years out of date.
More Able Children
We were the first school in Oxfordshire to gain the NACE Challenge Award for excellence in provision for gifted and talented pupils. We provide for more able children in almost all lessons. 53% of our children achieved a level above that expected nationally at the end of KS2 in English, 69% inmathematics, 75% in science.
English as an Additional Language
We have many staff trained in teaching children having English as an additional language, and such children are very welcome and learn quickly at Edward Feild. Children who spend 2 years with us achieve as highly as other children in the school, even if they arrive with no English.
